Dr. A. Vimal Jerald is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Tiruchirappalli, with 17 years of teaching experience. A UGC recognized trainer for MMTTCs on ICT, he has served as a resource person in more than 500 sessions and has trained nearly 50,000 faculty members across India and Nepal on ICT and AI tools for teaching, learning, evaluation and research. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science, has published 15 research articles (8 Scopus indexed), reviews for IEEE Access, and is a member of ASDF, IEEE and InSc. His honours include the Global Best Computer Science Faculty Award from ASDF, London, and Best Teacher awards from the Institute of Scholars, Bangalore, and his own college.
He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science along with M.C.A., M.Phil., M.B.A., MSc (Psychology) and PGDBI degrees, and is UGC NET qualified. His training expertise covers ICT and AI tools for teaching, learning, evaluation and research, e-content development in the 4 Quadrant approach, learning management systems, and academic digital integration. His sessions have been sponsored by UGC, MoE (MHRD), AICTE and DBT, and he has also attended more than 300 workshops, FDPs, webinars and conferences himself. During the pandemic he trained the faculty of several Jesuit colleges on ICT tools, and he also serves as a consultant for a software company and collaborates with many colleges on e-content development, online tools and faculty development programmes.
Among his recognitions are the Global Best Computer Science Faculty Award from ASDF, London, the Best Teacher Award from the Institute of Scholars, Bangalore, and Best Researcher and Best Teacher awards from St. Joseph’s College. He has also won Best Paper awards at Tribhuvan University, Nepal, and at an IEEE conference, and the Kamaraj Award from the Integral Training Centre, Qatar.
In research, Dr. Jerald has led a UGC-funded Minor Research Project on an IoT-based Information Kendra for smart applications at district level, and a St. Joseph’s College research grant on a secured IoT-based smart health management system. He has authored the book “Computer Networks”, contributed a chapter to a Springer publication, and written “Office Automation and ICT Tools”. He reviews for IEEE Access and the International Journal of Communication System.
He serves on Boards of Studies and as an external expert for several universities and colleges, including Bharathidasan University, Jamal Mohamed College and Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College. At St. Joseph’s College he is a core team member of JosTEL, the college’s learning management system, and has coordinated the E-Content Development Cell, the Fine Arts Association and the PRO team. He was also part of the core team for NAAC Criteria V and helped organise international and IEEE-affiliated national conferences.
